East Midlands Teacher Training Partnership

Secondary English

English is an exciting and dynamic subject which enriches the lives of our students in several ways.  As a trainee English teacher, one of your many subject-specific roles will be to provide the life skills that students need as the bedrock of all other educational attainment and the future functional skills that they require as adults. In addition to functional English, you will enhance the personal growth and development of individual pupils through activities such as creative writing.

You will also make them more culturally aware, as you bring to life great works of literature and teach students how to interpret, critique and question the value systems and societies presented to them. You will have exciting opportunities to hone your craft by teaching a range of subjects under the English umbrella, such as Literature, Language, Media and perhaps Drama.
